Fernie and the Elk Valley have over 130 kilometres of snowmobile trails starting at the Coal Creek Trailhead in the town of Fernie. Snowmobile Tours and backcountry guides are available with Prestige Tours for daily tours or multi-day packages. Beginning right from the edge of town, snowmobilers conquering Fernie can access the Coal Creek and Upper Flathead network of trails. Popular destinations such as Flathead Ridge, also known as the pipeline, and Rolling Hills near the Fernie Snowmobile Club's cabin offer spectacular mountain riding in over 900 cm of annual snowfall. Another favourite is the Communication Tower Lookout trail which provides quick access to the high alpine and offers more stupendous views. Much of the Coal Creek network is ideal for family and intermediate touring. In addition, several trails provide access to the alpine and huge snow bowls which are popular with expert sledders with large, powerful machines. The Fernie Snowmobile Map details popular riding trails in the Fernie area and is available through the Visitor Info-Centre and various businesses Cost is $2 with a portion of the proceeds going towards local trail maintenance and development programs. Fernie Trail Passes are required for all drivers and can be purchased at Visitor Info-Centre or Fas Gas, with proceeds going towards trail maintenance.
